Speedometer Wiring

i need help in reconnecting the electrical wiring of my 1977 911s speedometer. the lights are okay and working in the unit. the four terminals is what i need your help with. i have a shop manual on the wiring schematics but outside the lights none of my wires are color coded the same as the schematics. i have

1) single wire, red and white striped

2) triple wires, all brown/tan

3) single wire, brown/tan

4) double wires, red with black bands and red and blue striped

there are several wiring variations in the manual but i cannot get it right. my car has the gas, oil, tach, speedo, clock. all work fine or did. please give me some help, ifpossible.

thanks,

tommy demine

While we are on the subject, I need to pull my speedo as well, infamous odometer stopped working this past weekend. How do you "pull" or remove the red connectors. They do not seem to just pull out.

if you are talking about the lights (3), i just used a tiny flat head and pried very carefully. change the bulbs while you're there.

Those are just another style of BA7 bulb carrier ... that happen to fit very, very tight into the instrument housing! Clean with Scotchbrite and Zud or Bar Keeper's Friend cleanser and they will not be so tight and the bulb could be brighter when you reinstall.

Thanks guys, I can always count on this board for answers. I will try the small flat screw driver trick.

1984 Porsche 944

Hello, I have 1984 Porsche with an updated transmission and speedo..The transmission is a Non LSD trans(from a 1987 Porsche 944 and has a impulse sender unit on it..And running for the speedometer is a 1977 Porsche 911 speedometer head with four prongs..I see that someone here already had speedo head out of a 911..with the picture shows exactly what I have..I had the infamous odometer failure and went to pull out the speedo head to assest the problem..When putting back in, the speedometer does not work anymore and neither does the odometer..I checked for voltage and found them to be okay..getting 12volts and the signal wire is at 5v..wanted to know which wire is coming from the DME..Since I was told that the DME monitors the speed and all cluster operation..Please correct me if I am wrong..Again the speedohead did work as a speedometer but not an odometer..Now after reinstall I having nothing but a bouncing needle.. Can anyone help me out?
