Dwaraka is a Peninsula on the shore of the Arabian Sea in old Saurashtra and present Gujarat State. The Godland is an old city on the banks of Gowthami River in Dwaraka District. As per the Legends of Purana, this is the Golden Kingdom ruled by Sri Krishna nearly four thousand years ago. Dwaraka is the gateway to the spiritual unity of Brahma, the creator. This city is the place where the birthday of Sri Krishna performed most gloriously in Dwarakadish Temple. Dwaraka defined in Divya Prabhanda, the ancient scriptures and is one of the four of Char Dham along with Badarinath, Puri and Rameswaram. It believed as familiar in one of the 108 Divya Desam of Lord Vishnu and capital of the kingdom of Sri Krishna. After the extermination of Kamsa in Madhura, Sri Krishna made his residence here. Sri Krishna arrived to Dwaraka from Madhura and built Dwaraka in an extent of nearly 150 kilo meters from the Arabian Sea. Aryans also ruled Dwaraka as the capital of their kingdom. Sri Krishna decided to reside at Dwaraka after the death of Jarasandha, king of Magadha. Krishna resided in Bet Dwaraka along with his parents and ruled his kingdom from Dwaraka.
Dwarakadishtemple in Dwaraka built four thousand years ago, destructed in the invasions of Moghals and reconstructed in the 16th century. There are other temples of Rukmini and Gomathi Ghat. Light House is the special attraction here. The Temple was renovated in 1861 and Golden Kalasa arranged to the peak of the temple by the King of Baroda. Dwaraka is notified as one among the 12 centres for Cultural Preservation and added in the list of Preservation Scheme in 1960. Suspension Bridge from Jagat Mandir in the main Dwaraka to Panchakul in the island in the name of Sudhama, the child hood friend of Sri Krishna was initiated in 2005 and completed in 2016 overcoming the hurdles. The bridge was built by Reliance Industries and Gujarat Tourism Development Corporation. There was Port near Gomathi River in olden days. Dwaraka is well connected with all cities in the Country by road, train and air. Dwarakadish, Rukmini Temples and Gomathi Ghat are important in Dwaraka.
Shree Dwarkadhish Temple
Dwarakadish temple popularly called as Jagat Mandir since it was constructed by Raja Jagat Singh is in the middle of Dwaraka City. The temple constructed in the City built by Sri Krishna facing west and equivalent level with sea. The idol of the principle deity Dwarakadish with four hands called Trivikrama is in the sanctum and a flag with pictures of Sun and Moon blown up on the peak of the temple. The temple kept open from 6-00AM to 1-00noon and 5-00PM to 9-30PM.
Gomathi Ghat
Pilgrims reach Gomathi Ghat and get down to the Gomathi River through the steps. They take bath in the Gomathi River and perform darshan of Dwarakadish. There are idols of Sea (Samudrudu), Saraswathi and Lakshmana at the Ghat. At the confluence place of Gowthami with Sea (sagar), there are the temples of Samudra Narayana Temple, Chakra Narayana Temple with the print of Chakra (wheel), the weapon of Lord Vishnu and Gomathi Temple in which the idol of Gomathi River said to be brought by Sage Vasista to earth.
Rukmini Mandir
The temple Rukmini, the principle queen of Sri Krishna is at a distance of 2 km from Dwaraka. It is believed that the temple is in existence 2500 years ago. It seems to be built in the 12th Century. The Tower and outer walls are with various idols of Gods and looks beautiful. In the sanctum, the idols of Rukmini and two Elephants were engraved beautifully
