Mayyanad is a tranquil, scenic village situated in Kollam district of Kerala, on the south-western coast of India and is about 10 kilometers south of Kollam city. 
You can reach Mayyanad by frequent buses from Kollam and Kottiyam and by local train from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. Situated on the banks of the Paravur lake, Mayyanad is within walking distance from the Arabian sea coast. This village or small town is the birth place of well known personalities like C V Kunjuraman, C Kesavan, A John Mayyanad and K Sukumaran.


Prabuddhathayude Ithihaasam is a book on Mayyanad to be published in 2004 by the Mayyanad Literary Recreation Club.
Mayyanad is noted for its shrines and temples. The Subramanya Temple at Umayanelloor is perhaps the most noted of the several temples and shrines in Mayyanad. The shrine is said to have been consecrated by the great Hindu philosopher Sree Sankaracharya of Kaladi. The village also has 3 (or more) churches (at Kakkottumoola, Mukkom and Pulichira) and a few mosques.

One of the leading Malayalam newspapers, Kerala Kaumudi, started publication from Mayyanad in 1911.

Mayyanad village is made up of several localities including Mayyanad, Vellamanal, Koottikada, Kackottumoola, Pulichara, Umayanellor, Mukkom, Thattamala, Karikuzhy, Thannimukku etc.
