Taxon name: Strombus truncatus Lightfoot, 1786
Originally described in: [Lightfoot, J.] 1786. A catalogue of the Portland Museum, lately the property of the Duchess Dowager of Portland, deceased: Which will be sold by auction by Mr. Skinner and Co. On Monday the 24th of April, 1786, and the thirty-seven following days (...) at her late dwelling-house, in Privy-Garden, Whitehall, by order of the Acting Executrix. - pp. i-viii [= 1-8], 3-194, pl. [1]. [London]. (Skinner).
Distribution: Indian Ocean (nominate subspecies), southern Westpacific (Lambis truncata sebae)
Diagnosis: Apex blunt, first 5 whorls in a plain in nominate subspecies, Lambis truncata sebae has a more peaky apex.
Size: Up to 350 mm.
Biology: 20-30 m deep, near reefs.
