The second fishing season officially begins on Saturday, November 16 and will end when the limit quota is reached or when recommended by IMARPE, due to environmental or biological circumstances The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has informed that the second fishing season 2019 of the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and longnose anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resource in the north-central area of ??the Peruvian coast, will begin next Saturday, November 16.
The assigned fishing quota will be 2.78 million tons, according to sustainable management criteria recommended by the Institute of the Sea of ??Peru (IMARPE), which conducted research cruises to assess the state of the anchovy biomass. Only fishing vessels that have a valid fishing permit for anchovy and that have a maximum catch limit per vessel (LMCE) for the north-central area that will be published by directive resolution can operate.
Likewise, when juveniles are caught in percentages greater than 10% of the daily landings at a certain port, fishing activities, mainly extractive activities, shall be suspended for a minimum period of three consecutive days of fishing or occurrence areas, so that they do not affect the population development of the anchovy. The IMARPE will inform the General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis in Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Prodution's Vice-Ministerial Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture about the monitoring of the extractive activity of the anchovy and longnose anchovy and referring to daily catches, bycatches, fishing effort and incidence of juveniles, among other indicators, and will recommend the conservation measures necessary to to ensure the proper use of fishery resources.

With regard to conservation measures, the ministry reported that the capture and / or processing of anchovy and longnose anchovy specimens with sizes smaller than those provided for in current regulations is prohibited, allowing a maximum tolerance of 10% expressed in number of specimens.
