Bhupen Khakhar

1934 - 2003

Mumbai-born Khakhar was the best-known Indian painter of his generation, but before learning to paint, worked as a chartered accountant, only moving to Baroda in 1962 to join the Art Criticism course at the Faculty of Fine Arts. It was here that he started painting and he held his first solo exhibition in Bombay in 1965.
