There is so much hiking to be done in the Western ghats.I was always fascinated by the idea of rain soaked trek in sahyadris, painted in all shades of green.Lush green mountains, roaring waterfalls, valleys and Lush green meadow with flower bed, sahyadris got lot to offer.Last week one fine day we finally decided to go on a jivdhan trek considering all the weather.

jivdhan fort

Now Lets talk about background of jivdhan fort.It is one of the largest and most prominent forts of Maharashtra and occupies a significant place in the history of the region and its place. Jivdhan fort trek in Junnar, Pune is considered to be a difficult trek by most trekkers. The fort stands tall at 3754 feet ASL. Located very close to Naneghat, It faces Ghatghar and was built to protect the ancient trade route of Naneghat.

Moving on to my story. We started from junnar at around 9:00 am.We were around 8 people, all full of enthusiasm. We reached to an base village near naneghat. Going ahead we had to climb a small hillock and get into the small dense forest on a path which takes you to the top to the steps.Fort has a route full of jungle, cascades leading to an uphill. We moved forward by helping each other as at some points roads were full of rocks and they became slippery because of rain. We moved forward capturing moments in our cameras. There are two entrance to a fort.We faced a kalyan darwaja which leads to naneghat road.It took a bit of rock climbing to get to entrance.Somehow all of us managed to get through it.As we were climbing up,we got amazing views of the wide-open lush-green valley below. The rain brightened the views of hills and the valleys. The light was shining on the great ranges around us.But by the time we reached the peak, the area was engulfed with clouds and we could only see mist all around. We mocked the splendid views available. Vaanarlingi pinnacle which is one of the most popular attraction of trekkers were also engulfed by clouds.A while later clouds disappeared and we could see the pinnacle. After seeing the pinnacle I could see a lot of monkeys near there hence I guess its known as the Vanarlingi. Afterwards we hiked to the top of the fort and leads to granaries. Those were the biggest granaries i ever saw.As we were going inside granaries, they were getting more and more dark and huge.If we talk about people, about thousands of people could have manage to live into those. On peak of fort we sat staring at the amazing stream of clouds flowing over mountains. We were unable to distinguish between is it a waterfall or just a clouds. After all this we were off to our base.On our way we saw little dog. Nevertheless we were stranger to him he started jumping over us and we enjoyed playing with him .We feed him some biscuits too.

The whole trek was platter of fun.It was an enjoyable journey and you will feel internally satisfied when you reach the mountain top and take a bow in from grand green lush valleys!

The beautiful memories of jivdhan will remain forever itched in my mind!
