This Maserati Merak got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1975 Maserati Merak is an early US-spec example that was built during December 1974 originally finished in Giallo (Yellow) over Black Connolly leather upholstery. The car was delivered to Maserati Automobiles, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, and spent time in Southern California, Arizona, and Florida prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition. As an early Citroën-based car, this particular Merak features an SM-style dash assembly, a shared hydraulic system, and a unique rear engine lid extrusion capable of accompanying a full-sized spare. Power comes from a correct-type SM-derived 3.0-liter V6 likely installed some time early in the car’s life. It is paired to a Citroën 5-speed gearbox, and both units were reportedly rebuilt during a restoration completed before 2005. The odometer shows 65,125 miles, and this Merak is now being offered with all Maserati Classiche documentation, reproduction manuals, and a clean Florida title.

A restoration was carried out some time prior to 2005 according to one of the previous owners. During the process, a repaint in red was completed, and the seller states that the finish remains in driver-quality condition today. Several cosmetic inconsistencies and two areas of paint bubbling near the rockers are highlighted in the extensive photo gallery below.

The Black Connolly leather interior is in good condition with the only noted modification being a modern Blaupunkt CD player installed to the left of the steering wheel. All instrumentation, lighting, and features work well to the seller’s knowledge. The odometer currently displays 65,125 miles, which is believed to be the correct chassis mileage.

According to known history, a Southern California collector commissioned rebuilds of the replacement mid-mounted 3.0-liter V6 and 5-speed transmission prior to 2005. Maserati quoted output at around 190 horsepower at 6,000 rpm when new, and a mechanical service was recently completed at the seller’s facility. The engine is noted to have good compression. The Merak was significantly lighter than the Bora, and could reportedly achieve a top speed of 247 Km/h (~153 mph).
