Made with coloured sands or powders and usually in front of doors / entrances as a 'welcome'. Some are very large and grand; some very simple in just white. You could make similar patterns outside your doors using coloured chalks. (Pongal = Harvest festival) Sometimes flowers or petals are used. Sometimes dots are drawn and then joined up and the resulting patterns coloured in. The pattern below was huge!
