The Kalka-Shimla railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been a tourist attraction. However, for nearly two months, the railway tracks were hindered by constant heavy rain. This nearly disrupted the line and repairs had to be made for it to function again. According to recent reports, the Kalka-Shimla train will likely start in October.
Kalka-Shimla Train To Likely Start From Oct 1!
Shimla’s monsoon-ravaged travel, transport and taxi industry sectors are awaiting the conclusion of repair work on the British-era Kalka-Shimla railway line, which spans over 96 km and was harmed by the downpours. Landslides, floods, and prolonged periods of heavy rain have hindered train services on the almost 120-year-old historic railway line that meanders across the Himalayan region’s rugged terrain.
Due to this, they are entirely dependent on the train business units of transportation, travel and taxi and have been without employment for more than two months. A Hindustan Times report highlighted the view of locals on the situation. According to them, their jobs were nearly over as they had not done any work in more than two months. Although tourists have begun to visit, they are entirely dependent on the train services. The railway services won’t be fully restored for another 8 to 10 days.

The transporters are clearing EMIs and paying salaries to drivers, but they are not making any money. Now that the heritage railway track has been restored, these business units are anticipating the restart of train service on it.
Paying Loans And Salaries Have Been Difficult For Locals
A local transporter stated that Shimla is a small city with multiple taxi unions present, and it has been almost two months since a railway arrived here. They were all expecting the train to start coming here on October 1st. Loan payments and driver salaries are becoming more challenging. He continued by saying that due to fading batteries and the difficulty for everyone, several automobile owners and drivers were unable to even check their vehicles.
The toy train on the Kalka-Shimla Railway is a popular mode of transportation for international tourists.

However, they are unable to use it due to the poor track and railway line, which has also caused disappointment among the foreigners.
