Super quick post today from the 2019 Viking exhibit at the Royal Albert Museum (RAM) – because there really was only one artifact to show!
This iron staff with a handle was found in Fuldby, Zealand, Denmark, and has been attributed as a Völva’s staff.
The display had a little description, that the Völva “was a seer and a kind of shaman. In Old Norse Völva means ‘wand carrier’.”
This is also a wee bit of a teaser for the other artifacts displayed in the case…. stay tuned for a post about the Valkyrie figures also shown here!

Thanks for the photo of the wand and the information about the ON meaning of the word volva as wand carrier. I didn’t know that before. So, although your post was short, it was packed with lots of meaning for me!
Very cool! 🙂
That looks exactly like a distaff used for spinning.
it totally does – though I would think in iron, that would be super heavy to hold in the crook of her elbow. (Vs a longer one to sit on the floor)
