West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday took a swipe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its Lok Sabha election manifesto and said that "a riot is their (the BJP government) only guarantee". Her remark came while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo was addressing an election rally in Assam. She also claimed that if her party will win the elections, NRC and CAA in the state won't be implemented, and referred to the BJP government as 'jumlebaaz'.
"If we win, we will not implement NRC and CAA in the state. How many people will be kept in the detention camp? This election is going to be terrible. I have never seen such a black and corrupt election before. Riot is their (Modi government) only guarantee. I don't believe that Modi will do anything for anyone. This government is a 'jumlebaaz' government. I am not afraid of any threats," she said.
She appealed to people to vote for all four Trinamool Congress candidates in Assam in the Lok Sabha polls and announced that her party would contest all 126 assembly seats in the 2026 state polls.
BJP's Election Manifesto
BJP on Sunday released its election manifesto titled 'Sankalp Patra', vowed to pursue permanent membership for the country in the United Nations Security Council. It also promises the implementation of the CAA and Uniform Civil Code across the country.
In its manifesto, the BJP has promised that the government will further expand the network of missions and diplomats to pursue the global interests that have been secured by India's unprecedented rise. The party has announced that it will fortify the connection with the Indian diaspora and provide "unwavering support" during times of need.
The manifesto was unveiled in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and party President JP Nadda.
BJP Claims Mamata Banerjee Demeaned Ram Navami
Attacking Mamata Banerjee, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi wrote about Bengal CM's message of maintaining peace on X and said this is demeaning to the festival of Ram Navami.
"When the entire India and the world is celebrating Ram Navami, the leaders of the INDIA bloc aren't avoiding humiliating India and its culture. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has made a post on social media appealing to maintain peace… This is demeaning to the festival of Ram Navami, as, on the other religious occasions, you (Mamata Banerjee) have given the message of peace, but here you are asking 'to maintain peace'...By doing this, you're trying to humiliate the Indian and Sanatani culture," he said.
