Kollam: Big changes are coming to Kollam Junction as Indian Railway plans to upgrade it to international standards. The whole Kollam railway station is getting a facelift with a budget of Rs 361 crore.
The main terminal, consisting of two terminals, is set to be built over five floors. This upgrading terminal will have things like waiting areas, kiosks, and more for passengers. To make it easy for everyone to get around, there will be six escalators, 12 lifts, a multi-level car parking area, and a special air concourse connecting the platforms. The new concourse will be like a modern shopping complex where people can enter without a train or platform ticket.
A special shed for Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMU) is also being built at Kollam station, and it’s estimated to cost Rs. 24 crore. All these changes are expected to completely transform the look of Kollam railway station.
