Mathrubhumi launched the Vishu Special edition of its weekly with many attractions for the readers. Noted writer MT Vasudevan Nair is the guest editor of the new edition. Interestingly, MT took leadership to start Mathrubhumi Weekly in 1969 with an aim to identify young writers.
Mathrubhumi’s literary competitions which resumed after 15 years received good response from college students. A jury, including MT, prominent writers and critics in Kerala, selected the best writings from the competition. The prize-winning works were published in the Vishu special weekly.

MT Vasudevan Nair started his career as a writer after winning first prize in Mathrubhumi story competition held in connection with international short story competition in 1954. His story titled ‘Valarthumrugangal’ won the first prize.
Mathrubhumi weekly has identified prominent writers like NS Madhavan, N Prabhakaran, D Vinayachandran, CR Parameswaran, Ashitha, Aymanam John, Subash Chandran and Chandramathi.
