Mathrubhumi
Kozhikode: Mathrubhumi Weekly marked its 90th anniversary on Tuesday. It was on January 18, 1932, Mathrubhumi Weekly released its first edition. Mathrubhumi, which allied with the independence movement of the nation, published its weekly by giving prominence to creativity and science.
For the past 9 decades, the weekly had made abundant contributions to Malayalam literature. It introduced the developments of world literature along with science and technology to Malayalis. On its 90th birthday, Mathrubhumi Weekly presents a gift with 214 pages to its readers. An anthology of nine stories from nine different languages has been included in the latest edition.
Important platform for common man: Sharankumar Limbale
Marathi author, poet and social critic Sharankumar Limbale expressed his heartfelt thanks to Mathrubhumi Weekly for publishing the translation of his autobiography 'Akkarmashi'. The author conveyed his wishes to Mathrubhumi Weekly on the Navathi celebrations.
“Malayalam literature has prominent space in Indian literature. It was a great opportunity to be part of this rich literature. I never thought my writing would be translated into Malayalam. Mathrubhumi Weekly opened a window and invited me to connect with Malayali readers,” he said.
Kaliyath Damodaran translated 'Akkarmashi' from Marathi to Malayalam. The writer said that many people had read his life struggle through the Weekly which is an important platform for the common man.
Sharankumar also thanked Mathrubhumi for letting him have a space in the minds of Kerala readers.
