Ingredients
Bitter melon – 250 gms
Onion slices – 3
Garlic – 3 tbsp
Tamarind pulp – 4 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Dry coconut – 3 tbsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves – 2 tsp
Salt – 3 tbsp
Oil – 3 tbsp
Steps
- Add dry coconut, garlic to a blender and make a smooth paste. Keep aside.
- Cut bitter melon into 2 inch pieces and wash 4 times in salt water.
- Connect the power cord to ROBOCOOK and switch ‘ON’ button. Press the MANUAL Button in front dashboard and wait for 30 secs for the inner cooking pot to get heated up.
- Add 2 cups of water to the inner cooking pot along with 1 tsp tamarind pulp and 2 tsp salt. Stir well and wait for first boil.
- Now add bitter melon pieces and boil for 6-7 min. Press cancel and remove from the pot. Transfer boiled bitter melon to cold water.
- Wash well, remove seeds and squeeze bitter melon. Keep aside.
- Press saute button in robocook and add oil to cooking pot. Once oil is hot add cumin seeds, onion and saute till golden brown.
- Then add coconut and garlic paste and saute for 2 min. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt and mix well to combine the masala for 2 min.
- Now add 1/2 cup water and mix well. Cook for 3 min. Add bitter melon, tamarind pulp along with 1/2 cup water and coriander leaves. Mix well and cook for 7-8 min.
- Once done serve hot masala karela with roti and enjoy.
