Bale revealed that he had never been to a gym before 'American Pyscho', he exercised and tanned himself for months to achieve Bateman's chiseled physique.
Bale's transformation in 'The Machinist' is considered one of his most extreme transformations. Bale lost 29 kg, weighed 55 kg to play the character and only smoked cigarettes and drank whiskey.
Bale had to regain all the weight he lost for The Machinist and built muscle, he increased his weight to 100 kg for the role.
For his role in 'American Hustle' Christian gained 20 kg, shaved part of his head and adopted a slouched posture, to reduce his height that caused him to suffer a herniated disc
Bale then played the role of US Vice President Dick Cheney and gained over 18 kg and shaved his head to portray the former President.
To play the role of sports car racing driver Ken Miles, Bale had to lose 32 kg after playing Cheney.
