Red List Category & Criteria: Least Concern ver 3.1 Year Assessed: 2010 Assessor/s: Watve, A. Reviewer/s: Juffe Bignoli, D., Gunaga, S., Vasudevan, K. & Kumar, V.S. Contributors: Molur, S. Justification: Polygonum plebeium is common and widespread in many parts of the world, especially the palaeotropics. It grows on disturbed habitats which are periodically waterlogged such as river and stream banks, puddles, ditches, rice fields etc. It is locally used as vegetable on a small scale. Although no population study has been done, it is locally abundant in several locations, and has no known threat leading to any decline in its population or subpopulations. It is therefore listed as Least Concern. Conservation Actions: No conservation action has been taken or is considered necessary for this species.

Population: It is common in many places within India. In suitable places like dried pond beds it can form dense stands with about 30 spreading individuals within 1m2 (A. Watve pers. obs.) Although population data in other countries is not available, it is a species easily colonizing secondary habitats with moist or waterlogged soil. Population Trend: Increasing
