Morphology
Growth Form
Tree
Shrubs or small tree 15 to 20 ft tall. Bark grayish brown. Young branchlets, pubescent, yellowish white. Leaves opposite, 2.5-10 x 1.5-6 cm across, ovate to obtuse-elliptic, base rounded, margin subentire rarely coarsely crenate, stellately woolly at when young, later glabrous except the veins beneath, apex acute, petiole 0.4-0.8 cm long, stipules absent. Inflorescence axillary, terminal, multiparous umbel like cyme, about 5-7 cm in diameter, rays whorled. Flowers whitish, actinomorphic, pedicel about 1-3 mm long, bracts caducous, leaflike, green, linear lanceolate, pubescent, bracteoles linear. Calyx greenish, calyx tube tubular, glabrous, lobe ovate-orbicular, glabrous, apex obtuse, corolla shortly campanulate, lobes as long as the tube, glabrous, stamens 5, slightly longer than the corolla lobes, anthers yellowish white, style taller than the calyx lobes, stigma capitates. Fruits drupe 0.5-0.8 cm in diameter, compressed, broad-oblong red, black when ripe, seeds dorsally 2-grooved and ventrally 3-grooved.
