Longitudinal rows of scales above lateral line appear to rise obliquely to dorsal profile, those in front of and below anterior part of spinous dorsal fin sometimes parallel to lateral line.
Scales on head beginning above middle of eyes, temporal region naked or nearly so.
All longitudinal rows of scales below lateral line horizontal ie. parallel to axis of body.
Vomerine teeth in a triangular shaped patch with a posterior prolongation or in a dimond shaped patch.
A large black blotch on lateral line below junction of soft and spinous parts of dorsal fin.
Dorsal fin with 12 or 13 soft rays, dorsal head profile convex, interorbital space flat, longitudinal golden lines run horizontaly only, greater part of blotch below lateral line.

Description
Dorsal profile of head moderately sloped. Preorbital bone about equal in width to eye diameter or slightly less. Preopercular notch and knob poorly developed. Scale rows on back rising obliquely above lateral line. Generally whitish or light brown, darker on the upper portion of the side and head. A series of six or seven horizontal yellow stripes runs on the side, mainly below the lateral line. The belly, most of the caudal peduncle, and fins are yellowish. A prominent black spot is on the lateral line below the first few soft dorsal fin rays. L. fulviflamma differs from L. ehrenbergii by having the scale rows on its back rise obliquely above the lateral line . Juveniles with a black stripe over snout and through the eye, and a round to elongated black side spot. Adult with a more elongated side-spot and reduced in size proportionally to total length and several yellow lines along lower sides .

📚 Natural History
Reproduction
This fish matures when it reaches a size of 20 - 25 cm total length. Reproduction is by dioecism mode and external. The reproductive biology of L. fulviflamma in Kenya marine water show prolonged spawning season from October to March. Fecundity was estimated as about 51,000 to 460,000 for fishes of 17 and 30 cm respectively. L. fulviflamma is a non guarder, open water, egg scattering fish.

This tropical fish inhabits coral reefs at depths between about 3 - 35 m. Often in large aggregations with Lutjanus kasmira and Lutjanus lutjanus. Juveniles are sometimes found in brackish water of mangrove estuaries or in the lower reaches of freshwater streams. Adults usually school on coastal reefs and in deep lagoons.
