    Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea south to the southeastern coast of South Africa and east to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. Recently reported from Tonga . Due to a widespread confusion with Sphyraena putnamae and Sphyraena qenie, the exact range is uncertain.
