“It is not just the stock of firecrackers. We also undertake additional expenses at this time of the year. We set up lights at the shop, hire generators and take on additional staff to show goods to consumers. These are expenses that add up,” said Lala, who set up his godown in 2014.

Gold Star godown, owned by Mukesh Kaushik, has similarly remained closed since Sunday. “We have been closed for the last three days. Nobody in Gurgaon will have green crackers in their stock this year. These cannot be manufactured overnight and we will only be able to get them next year,” said Kaushik.

Gurgaon Police, meanwhile, has taken measures to ensure the orders of the Supreme Court are followed. “The Commissioner of Police has issued directions to all SHOs and other police personnel. We have also found there are no green crackers in Gurgaon as yet, so all SHOs have closed down firecracker godowns in their jurisdiction areas,” said Subhash Boken, PRO of Gurgaon Police.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgugram has similarly started working towards ensuring the implementation of the Graded Action Plan (GRAP) in the city between November 1 and November 10, forming 12 teams that will work round-the-clock to ensure there are no violations. “Teams will act against those who burn garbage, dump debris in public spaces,” said MCG Commissioner Yashpal Yadav.
