In an election campaign, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she is the Royal Bengal Tiger of the people and added that the state will not beg before anyone.

On Saturday, during a campaign rally at Gajol of Maldah district, Banerjee said, “Bengal will not beg. I am your Royal Bengal Tiger. The greater number of MPs we get, the more work will be done.”

Banerjee re-iterated that in West Bengal, only Trinamool Congress (TMC) is fighting against the BJP. “CPI(M) and the Congress are with the BJP. They are not fighting against each other. Here (in Bengal), we are INDIA (the main opposition) and we are fighting against the BJP. We will form the government in the Centre and then we will become a part of the INDIA bloc.”

Maldah and Murshidabad are known to be strongholds of the Congress. The two districts have huge minority populations which traditionally vote for the Congress. However, in the past Assembly elections, the TMC has gained some ground in Maldah and Murshidabad. This time too, Banerjee is expecting a good result, even in the constituencies that voted in the first phase such as Cooch Behar, Alipurduars, Jalpaiguri.

Speaking on the alleged misuse of the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and other central agencies, Banerjee said, “They (BJP) are not coming back to power. How will they arrest anyone?”

Festive offer

“BJP is spreading lies through fake poll surveys. Let them cross 200 first. They won’t get seats in West Bengal, in the South, Punjab, Odisha and Delhi. In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the number of seats will be reduced by half. Where will they get seats from?”

The Chief Minister’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee said, “Mr Modi says Ab ki baar 400 paar (this time, more than 400 seats). I want to say his party (BJP) is all set to get a 440 volt shock on June 4. Yesterday (Friday), in the Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha elections, mothers, sisters and brothers of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar came out in large numbers to shower their blessings on us. They gave a befitting reply to the BJP.”

As Maldah has a huge number of migrant labourers, Banerjee said, “All migrant labourers should come and cast their votes. Otherwise, they will delete your name. So, do not miss on voting; come and cast your vote.”

Mamata Banerjee warned, “If the BJP comes to power again, this will be your last vote because the party will stop the voting process and will implement autocracy in India.”
