Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee is set to miss the first few days of the Lok Sabha poll campaign owing to the head injury sustained on Thursday. The doctors looking after her have advised the Bengal chief minister to take bed rest for at least seven days. After that, they will review her condition and make a fresh decision.

According to reports, the CM slipped and hit her head against a glass showcase at her residence in Kolkata’s Harish Chatterjee Street. As she was bleeding profusely, TMC general secretary and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee rushed her to the state-run SSKM Hospital where she got four stitches.

SSKM Hospital director Dr Manimoy Bandopadhyay had claimed on Thursday that the CM was brought to the medical facility “around 7.30 pm with a history of fall within the vicinity of her home due to some push from behind”.

However, on Friday, he clarified that all he meant was that the CM may have felt “a sensation of push”.

“I didn’t say that someone pushed the CM from behind… This is a sensation of pushing from behind which led to the fall (of CM Banerjee). Our job is to treat and we have done that. There was a misinterpretation of what I said last evening (Thursday),” Bandyopadhyay said.

Festive offer

A senior doctor said, “A team of doctors is reviewing the CM’s health condition from time to time. Every day, doctors visit her house and check her health parameters. She is stable now and recovering quickly. We are hoping that she will be fit to participate in political programs soon.”

Meanwhile, a day after Mamata Banerjee sustained head injuries following the alleged fall, the Kolkata police launched a probe into the incident and stepped up security around her Kalighat residence. The Kolkata police are also reviewing the floor composition of the CM’s residence.

A senior cop said, “To avoid such accidents, we are reviewing all security aspects of the CM’s residence. We identified some spots where the floor is uneven, we will renovate those areas.”
