Swami Jayesh (Michael Byrne), the Chairman of the Inner Circle as well as the chair of the OSHO International Foundation (OIF), passed away in London on November 6. He was 76.

An official statement issued by the Osho International Meditation Resort (formerly known as Osho Commune) stated that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 15 days back which had spread widely in his body.

Born in 1947, Jayesh was of mixed Irish and Canadian descent. The official statement said he was appointed by OSHO as the Chairman of the Inner Circle more than 30 years back.

“Jayesh was personally prepared by Osho to see the continued expansion of his work after Osho himself left the body. Jayesh would often refer to what he called, Osho’s list, and particularly Osho’s insistence on the importance of making his work available throughout the world, using all the latest technology,” the release read.

The release said that chairmanship has been passed to Swami Amrito who incidentally was Osho’s personal doctor also. Ma Sadhna, the spokesperson of the resort said that Jayesh passed away in London.

Festive offer

Swami Chaitnaya Keerti, the editor of Osho World Hindi monthly published from New Delhi, remembered Jayesh as a person with proficiency in accounts and finances.

“After Ma Anand Sheela, the then secretary of Osho, left post the closure of the Oregon Commune, Jayesh travelled with Osho to 21 countries. While he preferred to remain behind the scenes he had good connections with many people including politicians in India,” he said.

Chaitnaya Keerti talked about Jayesh’s extreme reluctance to talk to the media.

“In fact, in 1997, a Canadian journalist who had visited India along with the then Canadian Prime Minister had tried his level best to meet him but failed. The journalist had even travelled to the Hotel Oberoi, in Mumbai where Jayesh had a suite booked for him permanently,” he said.

Chaitanya Keerti is one of the prominent disciples of Osho belonging to the breakaway faction that is now engaged in a legal fight over the Commune and trademark over Osho’s work.
