Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles. Her given name was Norma Jean Mortensen.

At 16, Marilyn Monroe married Jim Dougherty, then 21 years old, after a series of foster homes and guardians. Due to paranoid schizophrenia and a lack of financial support from her father, her mother had difficulty providing for her daughter.

What happened to Marilyn Monroe's corpse?

Marilyn's psychiatrist broke the window and entered her room to see her dead. The doctor immediately declared the actor dead and dialed emergency services. The police arrived and took her body to a mortuary for an autopsy. All the clues to her disappearance vanished before a proper inquiry could occur.

Several reporters bribed the morgue guards to acquire photos of Marilyn's body. Many reporters snapped these images, which were purportedly displayed in a Hollywood museum before being relegated to the archives.

Despite her death, her body continued to be fetishized and idolized.

Marilyn and her closets had no control over what was happening to her body or the photographs that were being circulated.

Even after her death, Marilyn is still revered by many of her close relations. After Richard Poncher died, he requested to be buried on top of Marilyn with his face down so he could "lie on top of her." Hugh Hefner, the infamous Playboy magazine mogul, was buried alongside Marilyn. Hefner published Marilyn's naked photo in the magazine's first playmate issue in the '50s without her consent.
