At first look, he might remind you of Nirmal Pandey. But there's a lot more to Manish Wadhwa, Kaali of Kohinoor. Suraj Wanvari speaks to him as he pours his heart out on his long tresses, acting, his heart mender and the works. Your character Kaali in Kohinoor seems very interesting, what would you have to say? Well the character is amazing and has this surreal feeling around him. It's so imaginative and yet Kaali wants to be somebody, but is nobody! seems like someone like him could actually exist. Kaali wants to be somebody but at the same time is nobody. If you'd make him stand amongst three men, of his same height, dressed in a pair of jeans, you couldn't tell the difference. But at the same time he is so unique that if stood amongst thousands he would stand out. That's why the word surreal suits him. He is a very small man and has good heart, so blinded by his master that he isn't even aware of what he is doing, but at the same time feels it's right because it has to be done. How challenging is it to portray something like that? Believe me, it's hard. When I was signed on I was told that I had to make my audience feel that I was a brutal, red blooded killer. But at the same time one can look at him, full of pity and mercy and end up telling himself, 'this guy is such an angel, he has committed no sin.' There is such a thin line between the good and bad of my character that it's hard to be a saint and a sinner at the same time. The look of you're character would instantly remind one of Nirmal Pandey Remind you of Nirmal Pandey? See, Nirmal Pandey is not the only person who has sported long tresses and a beard. Well, even Kabir Bedi sported long hair once. Kaali needs to be someone who is scary, yet subtle at the same time. I think the look is completely designed for the character and suits him fine. Are you willing to change you're looks for a character? Yes, if you've seen me earlier you'll know that it's not my normal look. It's a pleasant surprise that the persona has received positive acclaim; I am completely in love with it but at the same time wouldn't want to keep it long term. All I need is a good, strong role and I will go ahead and get a complete makeover! But the way Kohinoor seems to be unfolding, one can't help but recall, Dan Browns controversial thriller, Da Vinci Code and Kaali's resemblance to the character Silas from the book? I had read the book, yes the character does strike a resemblance to Silas, but their levels of suffering are varied. Kaali's dark past keeps haunting him. His master, according to him is his savior and he believes that everything his master wants him to do is sacred and must be accomplished come what may. You've had a long innings as an actor; what do you feel when you look back? Yeah from the film Rahul to my various plays and now TV, I've had a long stint with acting. I'm a hard core acting fan. Having been bred on theatre, my performance has highest priority in any of my work. I love acting so much, I breathe on it. For a good role, I would give in my very best.
