James Cameron recently confirmed that if the film Avatar: The Way of Water flops, the planned 4th and 5th parts may be scrapped.

James Cameron said that the story will be wrapped with the third film if the highly-anticipated film Avatar: The Way of Water fails to perform at the box office.

Fans of the 2009 hit Avatar have been patiently waiting for over a decade for James Cameron’s sequel Avatar: The Way of Water.

When Avatar was released in 2009, the film not only proved to be a game changer but also became the highest-grossing film at the time.

The director of the upcoming science-fiction movie has revealed he’s willing to wrap up the franchise with the third part.

Cited by Slash Film, based on the December 2022 issue of Total Film, Cameron talked about the prospect of Avatar 2 failing and that the future of the franchise depends upon how the upcoming sequel does at the box office.

“The market could be telling us we're done in three months, or we might be semi-done, meaning: 'Okay, let's complete the story within movie three, and not go on endlessly,' if it's just not profitable … We're in a different world now than we were when I wrote this stuff, even,” James Cameron said.

“It's the one-two punch — the pandemic and streaming,” Cameron said “Or, conversely, maybe we'll remind people what going to the theater is all about. This film definitely does that. The question is: how many people give a s*** now?”

The film Avatar: The Way of Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, and more. The film is set to hit the theatre screens on December 16, 2022.
