A sex worker from Nairobi was recently handed what many would deem as a light sentence after stealing from a client who refused to pay her.

The woman, Lilian Nyokoa Ngota, was convicted to 5 hours of community service after she pleaded guilty to stealing a client's mobile phone worth Sh10,000 in December last year.

She told the court that she took Joseph Gitonga Mwenda's phone because he 'attempted to be smart' by running away before paying her for the services rendered.

Ms. Ngota recounted how she met the said man and how they proceeded to a lodging after negotiations.

She said that she was shocked when Mwenda told her that he didn't have any money right after they had done the deed.

Feeling cheated, the 37-year-old woman decided to take his phone. The man later reported the matter at Central Police Station and Ngota was found with the phone in Zimmerman.

However the sex worker denied stealing Sh42,000 which Mwenda said he had with when he went romping.
