Shimla: Amid the holiday season, the toy train which runs on the Kalka-Shimla railway line has become the first choice for tourists. All trains are fully booked from Christmas to New Year, and the waiting list continues to grow due to the huge popularity of the train.
In order to enjoy the charming valleys of Himachal, tourists from all over the country and overseas prefer travelling in the toy train. Ahead of Christmas and New Year, several special trains are being run by the railway board to meet the demand of the passengers as other trains are fully booked. Reportedly, these trains are also reaching Shimla fully crowded every day.

The railway department currently operates seven toy trains on the Kalka-Shimla rail line. These include the Kalka-Shimla Express, Kalka-Shimla Special, Him Darshan, Shivalik Deluxe Express and Kalka Shimla Up Mix-Down Mix.
The Kalka Shimla Toy Train starts its journey from Kalka railway station and at around 656 meters, it takes its first climb, after which it starts covering a track length of 96 km to reach Shimla. As per Shimla Tourism, the 18 stations the train covers are Kalka, Taksal, Gumman, Koti, Sonwara, Dharampur, Kumarhatti, Barog, Solan, Salogra, Kandaghat, Kanoh, Kathleegat, Shoghi, Taradevi, Jutoh, Summer Hill and Shimla, however, some of them were removed from the route later as per media reports.
