Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park will soon have a long tunnel aquarium. The Department of Fisheries in association with a Bengaluru-based agency is developing the aquarium under the Private Public Partnership model. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will officially lay the project’s foundation on July 4.

The tunnel aquarium will have 60,000 litres of ocean water and more than 30 varieties of attractive aquatic animals. According to sources, the tunnel will be 24 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 15 feet tall.

In Singapore, Dubai, and China, tunnel aquariums of a similar model have been built. In India, Gujarat is home to one.

It is planned to build a koi pond with one lakh litres of water in it. An additional attraction will be a museum with a variety of aquariums and fish kept in hi-tech facilities. Moreover, there will be a facility for training businessmen who wish to start fishing. A total of 17,000 square feet have been set aside for the aquarium, of which 2,000 square feet will be used initially.

The aquarium’s ticket price is likely to be set at Rs. 80 for adults and Rs. 25 for children, with weekends expected to be increased to Rs. 100 and Rs. 40, respectively. The price of a ticket will go up once every three years.
