Description: Large shrubs or small trees up to 4 m tall. Leaves 2-3 pinnate. Leaflets elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, up to 20 x 6 cm, truncate-cordate at base, acute or acuminate at apex, margins serrate. Flowers in large, corymbose, paniculate cymes, greenish white. Calyx 5-lobed. Petals 5. Stamens 5, opposite to the petals; filaments united into a staminal tube; anthers connate. Berries depressed-globose, up to 8 mm across, purplish-black. Seeds 4-6, grooved.
Flowering & Fruiting: June - March.
Distribution: India: Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andaman & NIcobar Islands.
Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Singapore, Indonesia, New Guinea, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Malesia, N. Australia, Solomon Island, Santa Curz Island and Fiji.
Uses: Leaves are used as green vegetable.
Root sudorific, used in diarrhoea, dysentery and colic.
