THIEN CUNG CAVE IN HA LONG BAY
Halong Bay is renowned for its beautiful caves which attract tons of tourists each year. Thien Cung cave is perhaps the most iconic dry cave with a beautifully breathtaking direction.
Known as "Heavenly Palace” Cave, Thien Cung Cave in Ha Long Bay is the most beautiful primitive cave and Asia's longest dry cave. The cave is situated in the southwest part of Halong Bay, about 4 km from the island of Dau Go. Thien Cung Cave has become a worldwide tourist destination with such a spectacular array of stalactites and stalagmites, with intricate interior structure, multi-floors with high ceiling.
There are various size sculptures created by Mother Nature with strange shapes of birds, fish, celestial maidens dancing,...The locals believe that Thien Cung Cave has such natural beauty due to the myth of an ancient Dragon King, who defeated invaders and returned to his cave, refusing to be rewarded. Dragon Prince then married to a girl named May. With many dragons, massive pythons and giant eagles visiting, the wedding took place inside the cave. Wandering around the north side you can see the scene gravitated on the wall and stones here and there. You would not need extraordinary creativity to see the graved pictures.
Exploring Thien Cung Cave's craggy cliffs certainly isn't an easy journey with several fantastic scenes to stop for a look. There is an incredibly wide room behind a narrow screen, in which the more you go, the further you will be fascinated. In the center lay a natural stone curtain, formed by a stalactite cluster hanging down and positioned under the cave's arch. Colored lights fill the last field, producing a magnificent shot. According to the legend, this is where the Dragon Price and his wife gave birth to 100 children, who split up to explore new areas of Vietnam, forge paths and create new villages with their mother, while the other half keep the Bay. These children are said to be of ancient Vietnamese descent. Leaving the tunnel, an incredible vantage point overlooking the entire Bay awaits you to be amazed. A quick walk will take you back down a set of stairs and back to your boat, ending the wonderful journey left behind with your hands.
Come to this spectacular Heavenly Palace Cave for the best dry time from April to August. There are several tour cruises offering visitors comfortably a fully serviced ride. As a preferred choice, you can check for Ha Long Bay Cruise. Locals also rent a bike for low-cost transportation to Thien Cung Cave. Tourists may, however, book a taxi or private car at the bus/train station or airport for convenience, and go straight to Thien Cung Cave. If you can ride a bike, renting one might give you more breathtaking views of nature along the route.
