Chennai, Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland has secured an order from Tamil Nadu State Undertakings for the supply of 1,666 new buses, the city-based company said on Friday. This is the single largest BSVI order received from State Transport Undertakings and would further contribute to the company's dominant position in the bus industry.
Ashok Leyland said it has been the most preferred brand by Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings with more than 18,000 buses, comprising 90 percent of the total fleet.

The buses would be specially designed to ensure outstanding passenger comfort and equipped with iGen6 BS VI technology, featuring a robust 147 kW (197hp) H-series engine. The engine is expected to enhance safety, and comfort, and reduce the overall cost of ownership.
Company's President for Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle, Sanjeev Kumar said, "We are thrilled to have received the single largest order for BSVI buses from TN STUs with whom we have a long-standing association and decades-old relationship. With this order, we are bound to cross the prestigious milestone of over 20,000 of our buses operating with TN STU."
