MUMBAI: The revised price of CNG in Mumbai metropolitan region will be Rs 67 a kg while piped cooking gas price will be hiked to Rs 41 per unit from Wednesday.
Apart from 3 lakh private cars, there are 5 lakh public transport vehicles in the city, including autos, taxis and buses which depend on clean fuel. With the hike in rates, the drivers and owners of autos and taxis are badly hit and we will once again protest to demand a hike in fares by Rs 2-5, an union member added.

An MGL statement mentioned: "Being a customer-focused company, we have always tried to maintain price stability for more than 8 lakh CNG and over 18 lakh domestic piped gas customers. However, since the increase in gas prices is significantly high, we have decided to progressively recover such increased gas costs."
The revised rate of CNG still offers savings of about 62% and 36% in terms of mileage and cost as compared to petrol and diesel, respectively, sources said. While petrol price was around Rs 120 per litre in Mumbai, diesel was Rs 104.
After Wednesday's hike, piped cooking gas too offered 23% savings as compared to LPG cylinder rate which costs around Rs 950 for 14.2kg.
