SWR to take up devpt works of Mysuru railway station
Mysuru: The South Western Railway (SWR) is all set to take up the development works of Mysuru City Railway Station.
With the city expanding rapidly, resulting in an increase in the number of passengers over the past few years, the authorities were forced to upgrade the Mysuru railway station. The railway authorities thought of upgrading Naganahalli railway station as a satellite station, which is located on the city outskirts.
As the project has run into problems owing to land acquisition issues, the SWR has decided to demolish the railway quarters to use them for the up gradation of the landlocked Mysuru railway station.
According to the plan, the SWR will construct three new platforms, a subway and foot-over bridge, four pit lanes, four stabling tracks, and a sky walk to connect existing platforms. The SWR will also take up the construction of a housing complex to accommodate about 364 railway families at the cost of Rs 346.64 crore. The tender for the same has been issued.
Meanwhile, the Naganahalli station will have one platform, one covered pit line and one stabling track.
The demolition of the railway quarters will provide the authorities with the required land for the expansion of the station. Currently, around 360 staff quarters are built on land spanning about 65 acres which will be utilised along with land already present with the railway. The entire project has been planned on a 165-acre land.
Speaking to TOI, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha said that the tender for upgrading the city railway station had been invited and added that the station will have additional platforms along pit lines, stabling tracks and other facilities. “The SWR has also identified quarters that are old and needed to be demolished. The quarters are more than 60 years old and need to be demolished. Once the demolition process is completed the authorities will take up the upgrading work and also the construction of the housing complex,” said an SWR official.
Sources also said that the SWR will also pay rent for the houses where the employees will be staying till the completion of the housing complex.
