Veteran actress and national award-winning director Aparna Sen had the opportunity to work with Uttam Kumar in quite a few Bengali classics including the big hits Joy Jayanti (1971) and Memsaheb (1972), but at that time the legendary actor was already a star and Aparna Sen had just stepped into the showbiz. However, actress-turned-director still has one regret in her career, especially as a director.

"Frankly speaking I was too young when I had the chance to share the screen with Uttam Kumar. There are so many memorable moments but I have one regret, that I couldn’t direct a movie with him as the lead actor," the actor-director had once shared with us.
Born as Arun Kumar Chatterjee on September 3, 1926, in Kolkata, Uttam Kumar made his debut in Nitin Bose’s ‘Dristidan’, way back in 1948. It enjoyed moderate success. Almost 4 decades and 212 films later he emerged as the undisputed king of Bengali cinema.
