City-based
folk band,
Dohar, completed 20 years of their musical journey on August 7 this year. The band started its journey in 1999 when a group of young energetic people came together to present the songs of the soil of
Bengal and the northeast. Their mission was to present the rustic songs of the soil to the urban and rural masses in its original form and flavour.
The band is also involved in an endeavour to form an archive of this treasure chest of tunes and philosophies.
Dohar marked the completion of 20 years of the band with a special show at a city auditorium recently. Now, to carry on with the celebration, they have decided to organise a show, Kalikaprasad Smarok Boktrita, on August 30.
Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya, who was the frontman of Dohar, breathed his last on March 7, 2017, after he met with a car accident.
However, the members of his band feel that though Kalikada is not with them physically, his legacy will live on. So, the event
titled
Kalikaprasad Smarok Boktrita is a seminar where singer-songwriter
Kabir Suman will speak on ‘Pollir Gaan - Nogor Loker Gaan’. Since Suman also is well-versed about both urban and rural folk songs, the band invited him to deliver a speech on this topic at the event.
We have enriched ourselves musically through Sumanda's writings and music. He is undoubtedly a torchbearer of Bangla music. There was a time when Kalikada used to attend each and every show of Kabir Suman. We are grateful that Sumanda has agreed to be a speaker in the very first session of Kalikaprasad Smarok Boktrita. I am sure we all will be enlightened by his views.
