Sujan Mukhopadhyay (Neel) is on cloud nine. After repeated requests, Bratya Basu has finally penned a play for Chetana. It is based on the Greek mythology of Creusa The Queen and will be directed by Sujan.
“Neel is like a brother. He has been demanding a play and I finally wrote it at the end of last month. It is a play with a lot of pomp and grandeur,” the playwright said.
Sujan, who is very excited with the play, told us, “I am overjoyed.
Earlier, we have seen plays based on translations of Antigone and Oedipus. This is an independent play, written in Bengali and based on Greek characters. I heard the whole play on Thursday and I am floored,” he said.
While Sujan’s wife Nivedita Mukhopadhyay will be seen as the lead Creusa, the director wants to rope in seasoned actors like Supriya Dutta. “But it is not finalised yet. I will be playing a small character. We have to go through long speech practice sessions as I want a specific dialect. Let’s see how it goes,” Sujan said.
Chetana’s last production, Don— Taake Bhalo Laage, with Suman Mukhopadhyay in the lead, is being staged successfully all over the state. “We have taken the play to other cities, including Tezpur, Delhi and other places, too.
