Veteran actress Sridevi, 54, died on February 24, 2018. She was in Dubai to attend nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding with her family. She decided to stay back as her family returned to India. Rumours of her death broke on the internet in the late hours of Saturday night, and the sad news was all but confirmed in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the entire nation in shock and disbelief.

Music composer and singer Aadesh Shrivastava’s sudden passing away took everyone by surprise His notable contributions are recognizable in ‘Chalte Chalte,’ ‘Baghban,’ ‘Baabul,’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ and ‘Raajneeti’. It was reported on August 31, 2015, that his cancer had relapsed for the third time since 2010 and that he had been hospitalised for more than a month. He died, in a coma, at a hospital in Mumbai, on September 5, 2015, a day after his 51st birthday.

Jiah Khan shot to fame in tinselville after appearing beside Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Nishabd.’ The controversial production was released in the year 2007. She was introduced to the movie world at a very young age. She also acted as a supporting actress in ‘Ghajini’ beside Aamir Khan in the year 2008. Her final onscreen performance was in ‘Housefull’ in 2010. In 2013, she committed suicide at a tender age of 25.

Two-time National Award winner for his stellar direction, Rituparno Ghosh passed away too soon at the age of 49 in 2013. Noted for his works like ‘Antar Mahal,’ ‘Chokher Bali,’ and his only Hindi film ‘Raincoat’, he suffered a deadly heart attack when he was at home. In his career spanning almost two decades, he won 12 National and many international awards. His unreleased Bengali movie ‘Taak Jhaank’ was honoured and released at the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Rituparno suffered from diabetes mellitus type 2 for ten years, and pancreatitis for five years. He experienced insomnia and had been taking medication for it. According to Dr Rajiv Seal of Fortis Hospitals, who had been his physician for almost two decades, Rituparno was also facing complications from hormone treatments after abdominoplasty and breast implants operations which he underwent for his role in Kaushik Ganguly's film, 'Arekti Premer Golpo', in which he played a transgender filmmaker with a bisexual lover.

India’s premiere satirist passed away in an untimely death at the age of 57. Jaspal Bhatti died in a car crash on October 25, 2012. He is most well-known for his television series ‘Flop Show’ and mini capsules Ulta Pulta which ran on Doordarshan. Jaspal acted in almost 30 Bollywood films through his expansive career. He also ended up featuring in films with the top three Khans of Bollywood in films like ‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, ‘Shakti: The Power’ and ‘Fanaa’.

Divya Bharti started her career in the South at a very young age. After featuring in a number of high-grossing Telugu films, she progressed to Bollywood films in 1992 with the action thriller ‘Vishwatma’. She further went on to have commercial success alongside acclaimed actors such as Govinda and Rishi Kapoor in films such as ‘Shola aur Shabnam’ and ‘Deewana’ respectively; the latter of which garnered her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993, which is to date an unbroken record in Hindi cinema. She died mysteriously at the age of 19. She fell from the balcony of her apartment in Versova, Mumbai.

National School of Drama graduate Nirmal Pandey made a name for himself with Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Bandit Queen’ in 1996. He received positive reviews for films like Amol Palekar's ‘Daayra’, ‘Train To Pakistan’, ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’ and ‘Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain’. He acted in mainstream flicks like ‘Laila’, ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’, ‘One 2 ka 4’ and ‘Shikari’ and in several television serials. Nirmal passed away suddenly at the age of 47 on February 18, 2010, from a heart attack in Mumbai.

The Marathi superstar, most remembered for his supremely comic performances in films like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya,’ ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai,’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun’, Laxmikant Berde passed away at the age of 50 in 2004. He was suffering from a severe kidney ailment. Besides his successful stint in Bollywood, Berde was primarily a superstar in Marathi cinema as he virtually ruled the industry from 1985 to 2000 giving a string of blockbusters such as ‘Aamhi Doghe Raja Rani’, ‘Hamaal De Dhamaal’, ‘Ashi Hi Banava Banavi’, ‘Balache Baap Brahmachari’, ‘Eka Peksha Ek’, ‘Bhootacha Bhau’, ‘Thartharat’, ‘Dhadakebaaz’ and ‘Zapatlela’.

Rasika Joshi who last played Neeraj Grover's mother in Ram Gopal Varma's ‘Not A Love Story’ and was the headmistress of a school in Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Billu’ passed away after losing her battle against cancer in 2011 at the young age of 39. An NSD graduate, she was very popular with directors like RGV, Priyadarshan who worked with her in films like ‘Darna Zaroori Hai’, ‘Vaastu Shastra’, ‘Gayab’ and ‘Dhol’, ‘Billu’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Malamaal Weekly’ respectively.
