Why brides are choosing pink over red?
While red choodas have deep-rooted cultural significance, the pink hue offers a contemporary twist, allowing brides to incorporate a colour that resonates with their individuality. Pink symbolises love, compassion, and tenderness, and many brides find this association to be particularly meaningful as they embark on their new journey in marriage.
We reached out to bespoke wedding jewellery designer, Komal Mallick who customises choodas for brides and asked her about the trend of pink choodas and here's what she had to say, "Pink is an incredibly versatile colour that complements a wide range of skin tones and can be paired with various outfits. In today's multicultural weddings, where brides often don different ensembles for various ceremonies, a pink chooda offers a more adaptable accessory compared to a red one. It harmonizes effortlessly with a spectrum of colours and styles, providing brides with the freedom to experiment with their wedding looks."

"Breaking away from conventional norms, choosing a pink chooda allows brides to make a distinctive statement. It represents a departure from the long-standing association of red with bridal attire in many cultures. This choice reflects a desire to transcend stereotypes and embrace a more modern, individualistic approach to wedding aesthetics," adds Komal.
Moreover, the influence of social media and fashion trends cannot be underestimated. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and other channels play a pivotal role in shaping wedding fashion preferences. As pink choodas gain popularity in these virtual spaces, brides are more likely to be exposed to this trend and inspired to adopt it for their own weddings.
"In multicultural unions, where couples come from different cultural backgrounds, the pink chooda can serve as a beautiful fusion of traditions. It can be a harmonious blend of both partners' cultures, bridging the gap and symbolizing the union of their diverse heritage," feels Komal.
Mrinalini Chandra, designer of bespoke kaliras and choodas designed Parineeti's hand accessories. According to her, "It was an absolute joy making bespoke kaliras, choodas and lehenga latkan motifs for Parineeti. Her impeccable taste and discerning eye made the creative process a true delight for us. We were inspired by her vision and were honored to bring it to life in the most extraordinary way possible. Her vivacious energy and faith in us made this a very special journey, and I'm elated to share how each motif unfolds."
"At first glance, the Kalira appears to be dainty ornaments cascading from the bangle. However, its true beauty lies in the underlying story it conveys—a tale of love. The design of these Kaliras is very special. Each motif represents a moment of serendipity, a chance encounter when their paths crossed in a cosmic dance," adds Mrinalini.
Ultimately, the choice between a pink or red chooda is a deeply personal one. It reflects the bride's unique taste, style, and emotional connection to the symbolism of the accessory. While red choodas hold a special place in tradition, the emergence of the pink chooda represents an exciting evolution, allowing brides to honour the past while embracing the present and future of their journey into marriage.
