Parshuram Jayanti 2023 Date, Time, and Significance
Parashurama Jayanti 2023 will be observed on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Parshuram Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, known as Parashurama. This auspicious day falls during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Vaishakha. This year, the Tritiya Tithi begins at 07:49 am on April 22, 2023, and ends at 07:47 am on April 23, 2023.
Significance of Parashurama Jayanti
It is believed that Parashurama was born during Pradosh Kala, the twilight period, and thus the day when Tritiya coincides with Pradosh Kala is considered ideal for celebrating Parashurama Jayanti.
The main purpose of Parashurama's incarnation was to alleviate the burden on Earth by exterminating sinful, destructive, and irreligious monarchs who exploited its resources and neglected their duties as rulers.
Parashurama is believed to still alive
Unlike other avatars of Lord Vishnu, Parashurama is believed to still reside on Earth according to Hindu belief. As a result, he is not widely worshipped like Rama and Krishna. However, there is a major temple dedicated to Parashurama located in Pajaka near Udupi in South India, and several temples along the western coast of India also commemorate him.
Parashurama will be mentor of Kalki
According to the Kalki Purana, Parashurama is destined to be the martial guru or mentor of Shri Kalki, who is believed to be the tenth and final Avatar of Lord Vishnu. This is not the first time that Parashurama will encounter another Avatar, as mentioned in the Ramayana, where he attended the betrothal ceremony of Sita and Lord Rama, the seventh Avatar of Lord Vishnu.
