A verdant valley
With a name such as Valley of Flowers, this outstanding destination in Uttarakhand brings out the nature-lover in us. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valley of Flowers have a special place in the hearts of people who are in search of beauty, nature, and everything in between. Its wildflowers have a soothing effect on the mind, its scenic views are glorious to say the least.

A trek to remember
The Valley of Flowers is not just a destination to see, but also to experience. The best way to experience this is by trekking the region. It is usually a four-day long trek, during which time you can experience the beauty of this valley. It is especially interesting for those who are into botany.

Flowers of the valley
One of the main attractions here is the flowers in bloom. Himalayan flowers are rare, and beautiful, mostly notably what is called the Queen of Himalayan Flowers, or the Himalayan Blue Poppy. It is most commonly found on the hemkunt sahib way slope. There are a host of other flowers found here, perfect for photography.

When to visit
While the valley is accessible only from June to October, the best time to visit would be July to mid August when the flowers are in full bloom. The valley is completely full of colourful flowers during this time. The glacial deposits melt in the months of April and May, and this is when the plants get a new life.

How to reach Valley of Flowers
The closest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, while Rishikesh is the nearest railway station. In both cases you have to go to Govindghat, from where the trek begins. You have to go to Ghangaria, and then proceed towards the Valley of Flowers. You can also drive from Delhi to Govindghat, but it is an almost 13 hour long drive.
