So Andaman and Nicobar Islands are all set for some awesome makeover as government has planned a series of development in the region. All these steps are being taken to boost tourism and also to give competition to its foreign counterpart destinations such as Mauritius and Maldives.
According to one Home Ministry official, the projects are going to cost around INR 650 crore. Not only this, with these projects government will have 60 per cent local employment, which is amazing.
Under ‘Ease of Tourism’, around 30 islands here have been exempted from Restricted Area Permit (RAP). Not only this, provisions are being made to boost the water-sports in the region.
A point to notice here is since 2014, around 40 homestays and 121 tour operators have registered themselves in Andaman. Floating jetties, light and sound show facility, licensed driving centres, para sailing, among others are some of the prime add ons at the island.
In the year 2018, the destination registered 5.13 lakh tourists including more than 20,000 foreigners while in 2017, the tourist number was around 4.88 lakh including 15,000 foriegn population.
With all these developments happening here, the day is not far when Andaman would be counted as one of the best beach destinations in the world.
