The recent cold-blooded murders in Kerala, which where a couple from Elathoor allegedly sacrificed two women to settle financial issues and bring prosperity to their lives, has sent shock waves. Njanum Entalum contestant and astrologer Hari Pathanapuram shared his thoughts on this incident in an exclusive chat with ETimes TV.
"I was taken aback by the incident.
What bothered me is not the fact that such things exist, but the point that a regular guy, not an astrologer or an enchanter or a black magic practitioner, who has a criminal background, has used astrology or someone's belief as a tool to quench his thirst to kill humans. That is what’s bothering me. I have been raising my voice against such unholy practices being done in different parts of the state, misusing the name of belief and astrology. Hope at least by now people got an idea that it is an alarming topic," he said.
The astrologer further said the temper of people needs to change.
"Astrology is a science that provides positivity to people who believe in it. It can calm one's mind, give them peace, and declutter their thought. However, there is only a thin line between belief and misbelief. Believing or worshipping something is one's constitutional right. What we can do is spread knowledge about the eccentric version of it. I don't think any law can put an end to it. A believer should be able to differentiate right and wrong. That is the only solution for this. We have strong laws against dowry and drugs, are people not doing those? If such a law comes, people will find ways to perform the 'illegal'. The scientific temper of people should change," he added.
Hari, who has recently entered the couple reality show, 'Njanum Entalum' also opened up about the online abuse he has been battling for being an astrologer.
"There is a huge campaign going on against me on social media for talking about the other side of astrology. They ask me to stop this and go find another job. Why should I? Astrology is the Kulathozhil (caste occupation) of my community, Janakakaniyaar. My ancestors were doing it and I will also be doing it. However, being an ardent believer of the same, I don't hesitate to raise my voice against when astrology is used as a business," he concluded.
