Ganeshotsav 2022: In Mumbai's Khetwadi, Ganpati's female incarnation Vinayaki is worshipped

After two years of covid-19, Mumbaikars have welcomed Bappa with grand celebrations. Among all the known Mandals in the city, Khetwadi's 8th lane has grabbed all the eyeballs. The Mandal has chosen an offbeat concept for their 59th year. Instead of Lord Vinayak, the Mandal has installed a 35 ft idol of his female form- Vinayaki. As per mythology, Lord Ganesh took a female avatar to meet his mother Parvati who was in a place where only women were allowed. Celebrations in the pandal are themed around women empowerment and in honour, posters of Rani Laxmibai, Indira Gandhi and other inspirational women personalities have been put around.
