Origin and Construction

Qutub Minar was founded by Qutb-ud-din Aibak the founder of the Delhi sultanate, it was originally commissioned by him in 1192 as a victory tower, which is why the minaret is named after him but he couldn’t make it to the first story of Minaret.

Architecture design and Inspiration

The architecture of Qutub Minar has a base diameter of 14.3 meters and the top of the minaret narrows down to 2.7 meters which includes a curved staircase of 379 steps, the architectural texture of Qutub Minar was made, with an influence coming from the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan.

How much time did it take to build?

Sher Shah Suri constructed the entrance of the Minaret. Qutb-ud-din’s successor Shams-ud-din IItutmish came forward and built three more floors in 1220. During the year 1369, the topmost story of Qutub Minar was damaged, a calamity caused by lightning strikes. Later, it was reconstructed by Firoz Shah Tuqhlaq as he added the fifth and final story of Qutub Minar.
