NAVARRE BEACH, Fla. -- We're learning new information about the great white shark that washed up deceased on Navarre Beach Friday morning.

WEAR News previously reported the shark washed up around 7:10 a.m. Officials removed it from the beach so National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) could conduct an investigation.

Heather Moncrief-Cox and John Carlson with NOAA conducted the necropsy on the shark.

Moncrief-Cox says the female shark was approximately 30-years-old. While it was initially measured at around 13-feet-long, Moncrief-Cox says the final measurement was just over 15-feet-long.

She added the shark -- which weighed about 1,500 pounds -- was still immature and had more growing to do.

Additionally, Moncrief-Cox said the shark was not pregnant.

"Age at maturity is around 33 years for white sharks," Moncrief-Cox said. "Based on the lack of development of her oocytes, it would have been another year or two before she would have even been capable of becoming pregnant."

The cause of death has not yet officially been released.

"We collected data and samples to send for a full pathology workup to help determine cause of death," Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center says in a Facebook post. "A fishing hook was embedded in her jaw, so post-release mortality is one possibility."
