Morphoregression and length-weight relationship of Bali sardinella, Sardinella lemuru Bleeker 1853 in Bali Strait WatersBali Sardinella, Sardinella lemuru Bleeker 1853, included in small pelagic groups which have an important economic value. The production of Bali Sardinella was the highest among the other small pelagic fish in Bali Strait waters. The morphoregression and length-weight relationship are important to be known to facilitate the conversion between a length measurement to another type of length measurement and the weight. The aims of this research were to reveal the relationship between total length (TL) and standard length (SL), total length and fork length (FL), fork length and standard length, and the length-weight. The research was held in Bali Strait waters from March 2017 – Mei 2018. The morphoregression was analyzed using simple linear regression, whereas the length-weight relationship using power regression. A total of 470 individuals of Bali sardinella were collected during the study period. The fish that analyzed have a length range 9.7 –20.2 cm TL. The average length of Bali sa...

Reproductive biology of the anchovy (Stolephorus commersonnii, Lacepède, 1803) and spotted sardine (Amblygaster sirm, Walbaum, 1792) from Tanga Region, Tanzania2021 •
The present study investigated the reproductive biology of Stolephorus commersonnii and Amblygaster sirm at two landing sites in Tanga on the northern coast of Tanzania. Fish samples were collected on a monthly basis from ringnets operated by artisanal fishers in the nearby coastal waters. Spawning seasons were determined using gonadosomatic index (GSI) and gonadal maturity stages. The size at first maturity was 57.7 mm and 66.2 mm total length for male and female S. commersonnii respectively. Male and female A. sirm were estimated to attain first maturity at 147.7 mm and 169.2 mm respectively. The spawning seasons of both species were protracted. S. commersonnii demonstrated a year round spawning cycle with peaks in August, October and January. The peak spawning season for male and female A. sirm was recorded in August and September respectively. Both species exhibited skewed size-dependent sex ratios with females predominating in the larger size classes. A. sirm had a higher fecun...

Population Dynamics of Bullet Tuna (Auxis rochei Risso 1881) from the Indian Ocean, West Nusa Tenggara, IndonesiaHighlight Research:The bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) was identified and analysed. The length at first maturity (Lm) of bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) was analyzedThe eligibility status of bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) has been analyzed and estimatedThe LWR curve can be used to estimate age groups of fish compared to the sigmoid curveThe CF cannot be automatically used to estimate fish worth selling The bullet tuna (Auxis rochei), BLT or tongkol lisong (Indonesian) is a species of neritic tuna which is one of the target fish for small scale fishers. The problem of bullet tuna fisheries was that it has reached overexploitation and the immature bullet tuna are still caught. This study aimed to assess the population dynamics of the BLT and its size composition caught by small scale fishers in the Indian Ocean, West Nusa Tenggara area was carried out in Bangko-Bangko (West Lombok), Cemplung Beach (South Sumbawa) and Tanjung Luar Fishing Port (East Lombok) between July 2019 and June 2020. The data w...

Biology and population dynamics analysis of fringescale sardine (Sardinella fimbriata) in Bali Strait waters, Indonesia2021 •
The eastern little tuna is one of a pelagic fish that has an economic important value and mostly landed at Fish Base Landing (PPI) Tanjung Luar. The needs of eastern little tuna are very affordable and sold economically in the markets, which causes a highly catching intensity by the fishermen regardless thecatching season, so that many eastern little tunawhich caught when they were in gonads matured and spawn session. The purpose of this studywere to describe reproduction aspects comprises of gonads maturity stages, gonadosomatic index and fecundity. This research was taken on May till June 2018 from Fish Base Landing in Tanjung Luar. The total samples observed were 120 female fishes which collected from the fish base landing. The sample determination technique in this study was quota sampling. Gonad maturity stages were observed by morphologicalobservation thenthe gonadosomatic index were measured. Fecundity wasobservedon 36 samplesat V and VI stages (gonads matured)to be measured ...

Evolution of catches and variability in the life history traits of the bonga shad, Ethmalosa fimbriata (Bowdich, 1825), a highly targeted small pelagic fish in West African coastal waters2016 •
An updated study of the main life history traits of the bonga shad, Ethmalosa fimbriata (Bowdich, 1825), was undertaken in Senegalese coastal waters, together with an evaluation of the captures and fishing effort over the past 33 years. Captures varied considerably over the years, with a peak in 2001. The condition factor varied irregularly between the years. The reproductive period mainly occurred from January to July, the size at first sexual maturity was similar for both sexes (≈180 mm), and the absolute fecundity was very variable (133,000 ± 70,000 eggs, mean ± SD). Growth was rapid and variable with longevity of 6-7 years. These updated biological parameters indicated that the bonga shad is fullexploited in the area and that the fishing effort should be reduced and the permitted mesh size reviewed for conservation management measures.
ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Yellow rasbora or pepudah (Rasbora lateristriata) is a petite and agile fish belonging to the native fish of Lombok Island, that can be found in almost all rivers on the island. The research aim is to provide morphometric and gonad data to find out the pattern of relation and growth pattern of pepudah. Fish samples were captured in the May-June 2017 period at Selaka River and Babak River (23 individuals/river). Identification of fish carried out in at Basic Laboratory, Fisheries Faculty, University 45 Mataram. Identification dataare processed quantitatively to describe the morphology of pepudah. MCR pattern is C =-a + b TL; LWR pattern is log W =-a + b log TL; and growth pattern is positive allometric (b = 3.06). The K valueis 0.952 which means the body shape is slightly flattened and the physical condition is ready to reproduce. Gonad maturity reaches: GSI > 3.0%, GI > 20, and GML = III-V. Biologically, there are differences of pepudah in Selakariver and Babakriver. Ecologically, waters of Babakriveris better able to provide raw materials for the necessities of life, survival, and breeding of pepudah.
