Spadenose shark (Scoliodon laticaudus Muller & Henle) Family carcharinidae is the smallest tropical shark locally called as: Bamboli is the most abundant shark found along the cost of Pakistan. It is caught by bottom set gillnet throughout the year in bulk quantity. The nutritional items of stomach were analyzed using percentage of frequency method from August 2016 to July 2017. Most dominant food item were fish and shrimps shows carnivorous behavior of the species.

Stock assessment of Scoliodon laticaudus Muller and Henle, 1839 was made along with analysis of its few biological characteristics from its commercial landings during 2012-2016 from Gujarat waters of India to understand the population dynamics and stock status of the species. The average annual landing of the species was 5442 t, which constituted about 67% of the total shark landings at Gujarat coast. L∞, K and t0 were estimated as 75.53 cm and 0.54/yr, and -0.4 yr, respectively. Total mortality rate, fishing mortality rate and natural mortality rate were estimated as 1.95 yr-1, 1.04 yr-1 and 0.91 yr-1, respectively. The length at capture (Lc50) and length at maturity (Lm50) were 39.74 cm and 35.79 cm, respectively, which indicate that most of the sharks are exploited after attaining the sexual maturity. Length-weight relationship showed that the growth was isometric. The species was a continuous breeder and showed peak recruitment during September. The current exploitation ratio (E...
Indonesia has the largest chondrichthyan fishery in the world, with a reported of 105,000 and 118,000 tonnes landed in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Scalloped hammerhead shark was either targeted or by-catch from this fishery, mostly for its fins. Despite of the growing concern around the world, the availability of biological data of this species, especially in the Eastern Indian Ocean is still lacking. The objectives of this paper are to present some biological information (size composition and sex ratio) of the scalloped hammerhead, from coastal fisheries in Eastern Indian Ocean. The data used for the analysis comprised of two components, i.e. survey data in 2010 (February, March, June, August, October and December) and data from daily monitoring shark landing in 2013 (January to December). Substantially lower mean size, more immature sharks and more frequent of female caught over years showed that scalloped hammerhead shark in the Eastern Indian Ocean are facing intensive fishing pressure which could lead to overfishing. This could harm the sustainability of scalloped hammerhead shark resource in the long run. The relationship between clasper length and total length was positively correlated where every 5 cmTL increment on clasper length adding 51 cmTL on total length. KEYWORDS: Scalloped hammerhead shark, sex ratio, clasper length, eastern Indian Ocean

Reproductive biology and diet of the grey sharpnose shark Rhizoprionodon oligolinx Springer, 1964 (Chondrichthyes: Carcharhinidae) from the north-eastern Arabian SeaInformation on reproductive biology is presented for the grey sharpnose shark Rhizoprionodon oligolinx Springer, 1964 (Chondrichthyes: Carcharhiniformes), collected off the north-west coast of India in the Arabian Sea. A total of 711 individuals, of 27.0 to 93.0 cm total length (TL), 180 to 2600 g total weight (TW) were used for the study. The lengthweight relationships were significantly different between the sexes. The size-at maturity (Lm50) for females and males was estimated to be 62.3 and 59.5 cm TL respectively. Number of embryos ranged from 1 to 7 and the size at birth was estimated between 25 to 30 cm TL. Overall sex ratio favoured the females slightly at the rate of 1.27:1. There was significant positive correlation between maternal TL and number of embryos (p<0.001). Dietary analysis of stomach contents (%IRI) revealed that R. oligolinx feeds primarily on teleosts (95.5%), cephalopods (3.2%) and crustaceans (1.2%). This study presents the first detailed biological obs...

The present investigation suggests that Saurida tumbil (Bloch, 1795) is carnivorous and predacious feeding mainly on fishes followed by crustaceans and molluscs. Cannibalism has been observed in the species. Young ones of this species were observed to feed on small fish and Acetes spp., while adults feed on a variety of food. However, fish seems to be the preferred food item. Monthly gastro-somatic index in males indicates poor feeding in the month of february and maximum during august and september. In females, monthly gastro-somatic index indicate poor feeding in december and maximum during january and march. Sex wise study of feeding intensity did not reveal significant difference in males and females.

Marine fisheries are dynamic and always prone to change in tune with the changing demands, challenges, advancement of technologies etc, as is evident in modification of fishing crafts and fishing gear, extension of fishing ground, emergence of new resources, collapse and disappearance of certain resources and new forms of market demands. The overall results of such changes have both positive and negative impacts on the fishery and this necessitates continuous monitoring and interventions to ensure sustainability of the fishery as well as conservation of the resources. This policy guidance gives an overall picture of the present status of marine fisheries of Tamil Nadu, various changes in the crafts, gears, trends in landing of major resources over the years, their distributional range, status of stocks, social structure of the fishing community, economics of the fishing operations, main drivers for fishing and the need for improved management of the exploited stocks for overall sust...

Present study featuring the assessment of demographical trends of Scoliodon laticaudus that were analyzed on the basis of monthly length frequency data from the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh from July 2014 to June 2015. Total length (TL) range of the collected 1520 specimens were 26 to 70 cm and weight (W) 329 to 2758 g. The relationship of length and weight was W= 0.3409L, R= 0.9987). The von Bertalanffy growth model parameters were L∞= 73.75 cm and K= 0.30 yr , hypothetical age at zero length of t0= 0.3922 years and goodness of the fit of Rn= 0.112. The natural mortality rate at average annual water surface temperature of 22 C was 0.5651 yr. The total mortality was 1.31 yr while fishing mortality was 0.745 yr and the current exploitation ratio 0.57. The Beverton-Holt yield per recruit model was done by FiSAT-II in which when tc was 1 the Fmax was estimated at 0.95 yr -1 and F0.1 was 0.8 yr . Current age at the first capture was approximately 1 year, Fcurrent= 0.745 yr which is smaller...
